An anime film directed by Sunao Katabuchi, set in Hofu, Yamaguchi Prefecture, in 1955. It depicts the friendship between Shinko, a girl with a mai mai (a whorl of hair) on her forehead, and Kiiko, a girl who has transferred from the city.
The setting is Hofu, and real places in the city, such as the Suo Kokuga ruins, the stone steps of Sawa Shrine, and Tenjin-dori, are depicted in the film.
